The company was founded by Dr. Keun-Yong Kim in 2016. He majored in ecology and molecular phylogeny of marine phytoplankton at Pukyong National University, South Korea.
He received post-doctoral fellowships at Pukyong National University and University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin, USA. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed research articles in taxonomy,
ecology, and phylogenetics of phytoplankton, and population genetics, phylogenetics, and genotyping of aquatic animals.
As the CEO of AquaGenTech,
he works with a firm belief in the commercial value recreation of aquatic organisms based on genetic biology.
With a strong background in molecular biology, he and his staff provide reliable services for DNA barcoding and metabarcoding and genetic monitoring of aquatic organisms and develop accurate
and cost-efficient genetic markers for aquatic microorganisms, animals, and pathogens. They have also conceived
and developed a remarkably efficient and innovative methodology for genetic analysis services.
Mission
We help every client understand and utilize genetic, technical, academic, and esthetic information of diverse organisms in the aquatic ecosystem by providing correct and accurate methodologies.

AquaGenTech Co., Ltd. is the abbreviated form of Aquatic Genetics and Technology Co., Ltd., which is a specialized company conducting genetic analyses and technology development for aquatic organisms.
The first letters of AquaGenTech Co., Ltd. comprise the acronym
‘AGTC’, which indicate the four bases (
Adenine,
Guanine,
Thiamine, and
Cytosine) of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA),
the genetic materials of all organisms living on the Earth. The four bases are commonly represented
by four colors:
green,
black,
red, and
blue.
Thus, the company identity (CI) is designed by embodying fish, the most representative aquatic organism, using the four colors. ‘
C’ has a dual meaning of Consulting.
The CI reflects the clear identity of our mission and vision of genetic analyses, technology development, and consulting on diverse aquatic organisms living in the sea, rivers, and lakes.
