Identification based on morphological characteristics is challenging for aquatic species, which exhibit minor differences in naked eye examination
at the early developmental stages (e.g., eggs, larvae, juveniles), and processed foods. An international initiative, the International Barcode of Life Project (iBOL),
has addressed this challenge by analyzing and accumulating the short DNA sequence data of the DNA barcoding regions as a global standard for species identification.
AquaGenTech provides DNA barcoding services for aquatic animals and algae by analyzing their standard DNA barcoding markers, the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (CO1),
and the plastid ribulose-bisphosphate carboxylase large subunit (rbcL), respectively, to identify them regardless of their developmental stages.
